Paris Vacation Packages

When booking any vacation, you have the option of booking an all inclusive package, or of travelling independently and booking your own flights, hotels, car rentals and even visits to various attractions. Alternatively, you can book a package, which will include some or all of those options.

Here we take a look at some of the packages, which are available if you want to visit Paris.

London to Paris - with Eurostar

Eurostar train at Gare du Nord, Paris

If you are travelling from London to Paris, it makes sense nowadays to consider travelling there by train, rather than by air. You can get the train in Central London (St. Pancras Station) and go directly to Central Paris (Gare du Nord - see picture above), without the time and hassle of getting to and from London Heathrow and Challes de Gaulle airports. The journey time is about 2 hours 15 minutes.

There are other benefits too. You can take pretty well as much baggage as you want, without paying additional charges, and you are free to move around on board the train. The trains run frequently too, but bear in mind when you book, that there is a time difference between the two cities - Paris is one hour ahead of London.

Eurostar offer a range of packages, which include a combination of train journey and Paris hotel - you can see the options here.

Choosing your train

When you use Eurostar to book your Paris package, you first of all decide the dates on which you wish to travel. You follow this up deciding the time of day you wish to travel. You should remember that London and Paris are in different time zones, and Paris time is one hour ahead of London time.

The price you pay for the train element of the package will vary according to the time of year, the day on which you want to travel (weekends are always more expensive), and the time of day. It will also depend on the type of ticket you want.

The options are:

Standard ticket - the cheapest level
# Check-in up to 30 minutes before departure
# A variety of food and drinks available to buy from the bar-buffet

Standard Premier
An upgrade on the Standard option, which offers:
# Check-in up to 30 minutes before departure
# Exclusive Standard Premier carriages
# Space to work or relax in large, comfortable, reclining seats
# A light meal and drinks served to your seat
# At seat power sockets
# Complimentary magazines available on board

Business Premier
For business travellers
# Flexible tickets with dedicated ticket offices
# Optional chauffeur service
# Fast track check-in
# Exclusive Business Premier lounges
# Complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout lounges
# Dedicated Business Premier carriages
# Space to work in large seating
# At seat power sockets
# Newspapers and magazines on board
# Meal and drinks served at your seat

Then you need to decide if you want your ticket to be flexible, semi flexible or fully flexible.

Non-flexible tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Semi-flexible tickets are refundable and exchangeable upon payment of a fee.

Fully flexible tickets are fully refundable and fully exchangeable.

Choosing your hotel

When you have selected the options you want and decided the class of seat, you are ready to select the hotel you want.

This may sound simple, but Eurostar is currently showing more than 900 hotel options in Paris. Great to have a wide choice, but it can make the selection more difficult.

Each hotel has a brief description of its location and its facilities, as well as a star rating given by people who have visited the hotel, and the latest individual raating by a traveller.

This may all sound complicated, but I have found the booking system pretty simple to use.

You can also book a rental car on the site, if you wish. However, if you're visiting Paris, it's likely to be more trouble than it's worth. Driving is unnecessary if you are staying in Paris, and parking is difficult and expensive. The main reason for wanting a car is if you plan on taking a trip (or trips) outside Paris.
